This is Paeon - the quilt I designed for this year's CQA/ACC 2021/2022 mystery quilt event. The conception for this project started back in July 2021, with the event's official start in September 2021. I'm very excited to be able to finally share this project with you!
Special thanks to Kellie @sillymoonquiltingco for custom quilting the project, @figofabrics for providing the Color Works Solids, and Linda Lake for her help along the way.
So maybe you're wondering what inspired the design...
The inspiration for Paeon came from early spring walks in my neighbourhood, when gardens of peonies were little more than orb-like buds and tall stalks of leaves. The buds themselves have always captured my attention. They're like a gift tenderly wrapped in thin, silken petals. They are generous, spilling petal after petal, until they gift you with an abundant flower. They serve as a simple reminder to start each day in a state of giving and openness, and to unravel ourselves from a multitude of burdens.
Lucky for us, each day is an opportunity to bloom.
I finished writing the bulk of each instalment and piecing the top in October 2021. Kellie @sillymoonquiltingco quilted it by outlining and repeating the pieced elements in the negative space (best seen in the photo of the quilt's backing). I particularly love the addition of more floating petals to emphasize the movement. An the ombre backing by Vanessa and Co. just adds more drama to the project.
Paeon is a collaborative piece now.
I must admit it's nice to be sharing the finished project with you now. And seeing participant projects pop up has been a really nice treat.
Time for another adventure...
