Butterfly Waltz Quilt Pattern Now Available on PreQuilt

I recently joined the Toronto Modern Quilt Guild, and if you’ve been following @canadianmqc on Instagram you may have seen the takeover by one of our members, Laura Henneberry of PreQuilt.com. PreQuilt offers a variety of features to help quilters design their own patterns, or colour a purchasable pattern from their stellar library.

I’m thrilled to announce that my Butterfly Waltz quilt will be added to the roster! The design focuses on a simple foundation paper pieced template circling its way through columnar skies. The modern strip of colour adds interest to a simple background, while the templates rotate in a seemingly unplanned order.

Here are a couple of colorways I put together using PreQuilt:

The left design features KONA solids in bluegrass, pepper, valentine, sangria, primrose. The right features sky, deep blue, papaya, clementine and chili.

I've been interested in incorporating embroidered details into my quilts recently, and I think this pattern offers a unique opportunity:

What if black florals cascaded from the papaya-coloured wings of a monarch?

Or if azure pearls dotted the valentine-coloured wings of a glasswing butterfly?

In May, I will be participating in @justwannaquilt’s Inventory Quilt Sew Along where I will be making my Butterfly Waltz quilt using fabrics from my stash. I've got my pull ready to go and will be looking to nature for embroidery inspiration. Purchase your pattern at prequilt.com or in the shop!

I will be creating a newsletter in the coming weeks to help you stay up to date on all things Ships & Violins. Keep an eye out for the sign-up and free pattern offering!

Happy Quilting,

C.
