Curated Quilts Mini Challenge Submission: A Quilt Study titled Wicker and Glass I

This was my @curatedquilts mini challenge entry, Wicker & Glass I.

I've been wanting to experiment with this concept for some time, and I'm pretty pleased with the outcome.

The challenge's theme of "utility" was a tricky one, but I think the literal wicker and glass fit the bill. A utility piece must serve a purpose, that is, be useful. This project is a literal representation of the wicker technique that we see used in a variety of ways.

In this case the mini quilt zooms in on the narrowing neck of a wicker basket, with a bottle green demijohn peeking through the uneven weave. The natural material of the weave and the subtle curve of the basket bring a softness to the theme.

I'm excited by where this concept can go, and will explore Wicker & Glass in future studies.

... maybe even a new technique to share with you all.

The project measures 15.5" square, and is foundation paper pieced.

Be sure to follow @shipsandviolins to see upcoming projects.
